No More Diapers in This House

I have some very exciting news!

Wyatt is pretty much officially potty trained!

Close enough for government work anyway.

So last week I worked from home for 2 days since my sitters daughter was sick and I wasn't able to find a back up.  Per usual, I asked Wyatt if he was interested in wearing big boy underwear since we would be home all day.

In an effort to not miss the day when my child was finally ready for potty training, I had stocked up on underwear and training pants and for the last 6 months have been asking Wyatt if he wants to wear them.  I never nagged him about it, I just asked if he was interested and if he said no, didn't bring it up again.  We had tried a few times, but for the most part as soon as he had an accident he would start to cry and beg to put a diaper back on.

Last Monday though was different.  He had several accidents, but he also finally "peeped" on the potty!  And seriously after that first time it was so simple.  I think we had 4 accidents on Monday and then none on Tuesday, including at nap time.  Wednesday he went back to the sitter's and had an excellent day there too, not to mention he woke up totally dry that morning.

He still won't poop in the potty (I think a small part of him is scared something bad is going to happen...but he's also scared he's going to get sucked down the drain in his bath tub so an irrational potty fear isn't that surprising), but that will come.

I honestly thought this would be harder.  But all those books you read about how if you catch your kid on the right day, it only takes 1 day to potty train...they aren't lying.  Oh come on, you thought it was a parenting myth too.

Wyatt has been so proud of himself and so good about telling an adult when he needs to go.  He's probably eaten about 2 lbs of candy as a reward, that's how good he is at this.

The fact that I haven't had to change a diaper in more than a week is my favorite part.  Yeah I've had to deal with a couple pairs of poopy underwear, but nothing too disgusting yet and it's easy to throw them straight in the wash (thank god we live in a house with a washer and dryer now!).

And just when I was wondering if he was going to be in diapers when he started kindergarten.
