Dreams of a Potty-Trained Kid

My son has been pretty obsessed with the toilet as of late.

This may be more information that most of you want to hear, but when have I ever shied away from writing about something because of that?

I can't really remember the last time I was at home, Wyatt was awake and I was able to go to the bathroom alone. He sees me walking into the bathroom and comes running. Every now and then he will even go so far as to lean over to get a look at what is happening. Once he even pointed and asked "Pee pee?" I wasn't sure if he was referring to the act itself or to his own anatomy and what he probably assumes is mine as well.

Now I know he is too little to really potty train yet. I know that it could be another year before he is really ready. I've read everything I could find on the internet and in the various parenting books I have about potty training, specifically the challenges of pt-ing a boy.

A lot of my friends have little boys and I have heard TONS of horror stories about how long it takes to pt a boy. My own parents have both told me I basically trained myself when I was about 2 but my brother had to be strong armed into it when he was nearly 4. So I am good and paranoid about this process with my own little boy.

This is why I'm taking his interest in the process so early as a good sign. If nothing else it might make it a little easier for me to know when the exact right time for him is so I can get him trained in a week. Cause I've heard it's possible. Catch your kid on the right day and it will be a breeze.

So today while we were out running errands I decided to get him a potty seat and some pull ups. I'm not expecting him to really do anything with them yet, but at least I can get him sitting on the potty when he feels like it and start to teach him how to pull underwear up and down. And if he hates it and screams his head off everything can go in the closet until a better time.

I really do dream of the days when I won't be changing diapers anymore.

**Update - After writing this I went into the bathroom to take a picture of the new potty seat; Wyatt followed like always and then started asking to sit on the potty! He lasted about 1 minute on it, but it's a start.**
