Pooh, Sports & Guppies

I just took this picture...
and realized that I have officially entered the realm of my kid choosing the things he likes.

While I was pregnant and shopping for Wyatt's things I got to pick the look I liked. I got him cute blue and brown crib bedding with stars, I got him a blue blanket with a guitar on it, I got polka dots on everything (without realizing I was doing it at the time) because I like that retro classic kind of look. His home stuff was all blue and his going out stuff was green. I decided what kind of clothes he would wear and what kind of style he would have.

Every single day after he was born though he was making choices and showing preferences. He hated the wrist rattles I got him. He used the Soothie's until he realized he like the Nuk's better. He didn't like drinking a bottle sitting up. (I'm not kidding, the child never once drank a bottle sitting up even after he could both sit up and hold a bottle on his own)

Now he's on to bigger and better things. I don't know when it happened but my kid somehow became a jock. He loves balls. If he can throw it or kick it he wants it. I have more balls littering my house and car than I know what to do with. So I bought him a set of sports bedding when I saw it on sale at Target. Wyatt will sit on his bed pointing to all the different balls asking me what each one is. I sit and say "Soccer, basketball, football, baseball" over and over and over.

He loves Bubble Guppies, Olivia and some days the Fresh Beat Band (much to my irritation).

His latest obsession is Winnie the Pooh. I never got into all the Pooh stuff there is for newborns cause I thought it was too played out, too stereotypical, too annoying. Yeah it's cute, it's classic, blah blah blah. I didn't like it. So I never really thought to get him into it as he got older. Pooh isn't on TV anymore, he's not in the DVD section at Best Buy, you don't really see him outside of nursery decorations and baby clothes.

Bet you're wondering how the heck Wyatt got obsessed with Pooh then. Let's all give a round of applause to my wonderful step-mom for that one! (there is zero sarcasm in that statement) When Wyatt stays at "the Grands" LB will sit with him and find video after video on YouTube for them to watch together. Those little two minute clips are the perfect length for a hyper one year old. She showed him all the same songs and characters she showed her kids as they were growing up, the same ones I watched too. Eventually they got to Pooh. Pretty soon Wyatt began to point at the computer and say "Pooh!"

Then we saw a trailer for the newest Pooh movie. He went crazy.

We watched that trailer probably 10 times before I finally changed the channel and got him interested in something else. From there it moved on to renting Pooh's Heffalump Movie on demand. We watched it 5 times in 3 days. I began to search for anything I could find that would keep him entertained. So now we own 3 Pooh movies, 3 Pooh books and a stuffed Pooh. I also got him a cool Pooh Lego set that I think I might save for his birthday. We have plans to see the new movie next week.

These things we have now, balls and sports sheets and Pooh movies and 15 episodes of Bubble Guppies on the DVR, these are all things he chose. He saw them and decided he liked them. So it begins that my choices for him start to fade to the background in favor of things he likes and make him happy.

At least I still get to pick his clothes.
