Talk Take Two

As my father graciously pointed out I forgot a couple words in the previous posts list. Thanks Dad.

I forgot a couple of my favorites; mine and no

Anyone surprised I forgot those??

We also discovered a new one while at the store today!

TIC TAC

That's right my child can ask for candy by name. He loves orange Tic-tacs just like I do. I pretty routinely use them as a bribe while at the grocery store to get him to sit quietly while I shop. We had run out so I got a couple new packs to throw in my purse.

I said to my son; "Want to get some more Tic-tacs?"
He replied; "Yeah!"

Wyatt then proceeded to yell "TIC TAC TIC TAC TIC TAC" until I got the cashier to ring them up just so I could feed him some.

At least he has good taste.

Talk Talk Talk

Wyatt has so many words lately! I'm totally stunned by how long the list is getting all the sudden. He still speaks his own private language most of the time, but it's increasingly peppered with real words.

His favorite word is still "ball"; seriously the kid is obsessed with balls! Soccer balls, basket balls, base balls, foot balls, super balls, balls on clothes, in books, on TV...I really could go on...

Here's the list so far!

ball; bubble; duck; poppa; momma; down; done; up; bye; water (which comes out "WA!"); cookie; cracker; gramma; dog; cat; puppy; milk; please (just sounds like "ssseee"); more; yeah; yay; and thank you (super cute "tak too")!

I love his little voice.

Selling Out (and an update)

While working on revamping the look of my blog, I ran into (yet again) the tab that screams MONETIZE!

Ok, maybe it doesn't scream it. But right now while I'm not working it does.

So I decided to go ahead and sell out. I could use some extra cash! I know not too many people read my blog to begin with so what will it hurt to have some stuff posted at the bottom.

On the job front update; I'm still looking, still getting in touch with people who might be able to help.

In the mean time I am still focusing on enjoying being a stay at home mommy. At the moment it's taking some work. The weather has been terrible lately so Wyatt and I have been stuck inside. A toddler stuck in a little apartment is ZERO fun. Thankfully today was beautiful and we were able to spend some time outside. What a huge difference it made! Even after just 2 hours playing outside Wyatt went to bed without a fuss; something that hasn't happened in like a week.

Man does this kid play rough too! He was running all over, throwing and kicking his soccer ball, chasing the neighbor boy...he had a good time. And has the skinned knees to prove it.

Awe

Has it really been 18 months already?

18 months that he has actually been here where I could hug him. But he has been with me for close to 3 years now.

He stuns me every single day. The greatest gift the universe ever gave me was the ability to be a parent.

I made one amazing little boy.

My Day

Happy Mother's Day all you mommas!

Last year I gave a shout out to some of my favorite mom's and this year I want to talk about me.

This Mother's Day turned out a little different than I expected. Turns out when I forgot Mother's Day it was partially cause I thought it was next week (oops). And it was also partially because while we were in Florida Wy's dad and I planned his next trip out here and planned it for this weekend. Genius me!

Part of the weekend was really hard. Yesterday Wyatt spent...6 (roughly) hours hanging out with his dad. I took Wy over to the hotel, took him upstairs to his dad's room and then had to leave him.

The poor kid knew it was coming. We have been up to his dad's room before during these visits so at first Wy didn't care. But as I was showing his dad the things I brought with ("Swim suit, swim diaper...FOR IN THE POOL ONLY! If he pees in this while you are holding him YOU WILL GET WET") Wy started to realize I was leaving and he was staying. His little hands started digging into my arm while I held him. Finally I couldn't put it off any longer, told his dad he needed to distract him as best as possible once I left and to call if ANYTHING (too much crying, fever, throwing up, cuts, scrapes...I covered all the bases) happened.

I had to just turn around and walk out. Wyatt sprinted (as fast as his little legs could carry him anyway) for the door when I opened. I listed to him screaming and crying and yelling "MAMA MAMA MAMA" all the way down the hall to the elevator until the doors opened. I think I pressed the lobby button about 16 times. I was bawling. I called my step mom and she was wonderful enough to let me cry and then do her very best to distract me until I calmed down a little bit.

At home I ate lunch then laid on the couch watching chick flicks and drinking beer trying not to cry, failing a few times. Since I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, once I was on the road again I felt like enough time had passed for me to call and make sure Wyatt was ok. He was. His dad said he appreciated the call...I think he thought I was making sure he was ok...not even close. I really just wanted to make sure I didn't hear Wyatt still crying in the background.

My heart was in a vice until I saw Wy again. Six hours isn't even close to the longest time I have been away from him; but this was the first time I was crazy with worry the whole time we were apart. I finally had to face my fear of his dad actually having to kind of be a parent. It was horrible. I hope it gets easier as time goes on, though the reality of Wyatt's age tells me it's going to be pretty awful for a while. He is at that age where he is having serious separation anxiety when I leave him places and with people he doesn't know well. Thankfully I have a very friendly and loving kid and he tends to warm up to anyone given enough time.

Today Wyatt and I hung out in the morning and just watched TV and played. It was fantastic. Then we picked up his dad and spent a couple hours at the park. For the most part I got to just sit there and relax...a rare moment!

The best of part of the last two days though was Wyatt. He was so lovey! He climbed all over me both days, wanted a zillion hugs and kisses and more than anything just seemed to want to be close to me. He has started to do this really cute thing where he comes up to me, puts his hands on my cheeks, smiles real big and says "Hiiiii!" (It's way cuter in person than in text)

I have come to realize the best hugs come once your kid doesn't have to give them. It is so much better when they come to you and throw there little arms around your neck. Yeah, there is often some choking involved, but it the most wonderful thing ever.

A friend of mine wrote that it's more important to feel appreciated in your life every day than to just feel special this one day of the year; it's so true. And even though I am single and don't have a hubby to remember to appreciate me on Mother's Day, Wyatt has gotten to an age where he is able to show me how much he loves me every single day! Nothing could be better than that.

I hope all my mom friends feel appreciated every day. Even if it's just for a minute when your child comes up and kisses you for no reason, or hands you a picture they drew, or smiles in a way that reminds you of their sweet newborn self. Mom's have the hardest and most important job. We also have the most rewarding job.

Hugs my mommy friends!

On Being a Stay at Home Mom

For those who may not have heard yet, last week I lost my job. The company I worked for has been laying off and/or firing a lot of people lately and I had a feeling my time was coming. And it did.

There are good things and bad things about losing a job. I choose to focus on the positives rather than stress about the negatives (I know! It's a new thing for me!).

So here are some of the positives.

*I get to be home with Wyatt!

*Unemployment is going to cover my bills while I look for something new

*I have some time to get the apartment cleaned out and up

*I finally am starting to feel stress free; it was amazing how much that job was taking out of me every single day I was there

It's been an adjustment for sure. Mostly for me. I haven't been a full time, 24/7 mom since Wyatt was 4 months old. So I'm having to get used to spending all day every day taking care of him while trying to get things done. There is an apartment to be cleaned, meals to make, etc all in the midst of entertaining an 18 month old. Let's just say I don't quite have it figured out yet.

I have been making sure we are keeping busy. I want Wyatt to still have good interaction with other kids of course, but more than that I want to make sure to get out of the house. So we play outside, we took a trip to the park the other day. And we visited some friends and the Grands one day. Today we had gymnastics and a McDonald's play date.

At the moment I am happy with the job I am doing as a full time SAH mommy.

I can do better though.

And I plan to....starting next week, lol!

Ear Infection Blues

Last week we went in for Wyatt's 18 month check up. It was a very exciting appointment for a couple of reasons; we saw a new pediatrician, we get to wait a whole 6 months before the next appointment,he only needed one shot and the office was 10 minutes from our house. Lots to be excited about.

It went fairly well. I brought in his favorite little soccer ball to keep him happy while I filled out the endless amounts of new patient paperwork. They took us right into an exam room so there wasn't much time in the waiting room (clearly they have dealt with toddlers before, lol). The new doctor was lovely, she got along with Wyatt and seemed very relaxed with us. Down side she's having a baby of her own in October so we will have to put off his 2 year appointment for a few weeks while she is on leave. But things could be worse!

And they were. While she was checking his ears he got really upset and she asked if he had been pulling at them the last few days. I said no, he has been crabby and restless but I chalked that up to the GIGANTIC molars he has coming in. Man do those back teeth look huge in his tiny little mouth. The doctor then used the phrase "puss behind his eardrum". Disgusting.

So we have a first official ear infection. He's on antibiotics now and will be all set in about another week. He had been doing so well despite what has to be a very painful experience. I mean the last time I had an ear infection was in 2004ish and I still remember sitting in my bathroom crying because I was in so much pain. As I have mentioned before he is one tough little dude.

But we finally had the meltdown today. He slept late (weird), woke up in a horrible mood (also weird), refused to eat breakfast (super weird), threw a fit because I wouldn't turn on the TV (I'm assuming not the last time that will happen), and was down for a nap about 90 minutes later. Once he got up I tried a different approach. I sat him on the couch, gave him a cup of milk and a bag of pretzels, turned on Nick Jr and just let him sit.

He sat for over an hour.

DING DING DING!

Finally some relief from the screaming and a happy little boy.

That all pretty much sums up the day. It was back and forth between wanting to sit and space out in front of some cartoons and throwing fits about nothing. He even shrieked through his bath. Now baths are getting kind of hard again anyway, but this was the worst yet. He refused to even sit down in the water and I thought he was going to choke himself on his own saliva when I had to lay him back to rinse his hair. Once I had him out of the tub and wrapped in a towel, he laid his head on my shoulder and was doing that hiccupy breathing kids do after a big cry. I just held him for a while, loving the cuddle time but also feeling horrible that he had to have a screaming/choking fit for me to get it.

Thankfully I got a smile and a laugh out of him a while later when I put him to bed. He even blew me a kiss and waved before I turned out the lights.

Dear lord lets hope he starts feeling better soon.
